  • SuperContest 2020-Week 1 thread (lines Wednesday, consensus/picks Saturday)

We've been doing these weekly SuperContest threads since ViewFromVegas.com debuted in 2007 and we were the only site posting the SuperContest spreads online as the then-Las Vegas Hilton was reluctant to post them on its own website. There are still a ton of readers who still come here every week to get the updated standings on Tuesdays, the official contest lines on #SuperContest, the consensus and leaders' picks on Saturdays and the results after the games are played...and then return for the next week's thread.

The SuperContest drew just 1,172 entries for the 2020 season, down from the record 3,328 entries last year, at $1,500 apiece. The reasons were many, starting with the pandemic that kept a lot of people from coming to visit Las Vegas to enter and also from the increased competition of the second-year Circa Sports Million. But it's still the SuperContest and will have a first-place prize of $360,000 plus the championship ring. The SuperContest Gold, the $5,000 winner-take-all version, closed with 72 entries, down from 117, and will have a $360,000 first-place prize.

Obviously no standings this week as everyone starts 0-0.

Is the Covid-19 the main reason for the dip?

Wow, I'm surprised the drop-off in the number of entries was that dramatic. The main factor may be that many don't expect the season to be completed. Money might also be an issue. Or folks are just focused are more serious issues.

Most people decided to join the Circa contest because it was cheaper and the was a strong possibility of an Overlay...........

will we be able to have the consensus, or not because of the late times to submit picks?

That's a big part of it as they had to close brick-and-mortar casino from March 18 through June 3 and then people being reluctant to come here to sign up as well as the uncertainty of the season...but then as JimmyJam alluded to, the increased competition from Circa Sports Million lured a lot of entrants away which its guaranteed $3 million prize pool (though the expected overlay didn't take place as they drew more than 3,000 entries).

Sorry about that...crazy opening weekend. But with the late submission deadline at 11 p.m. Saturday, Westgate is now posting the consensus plays and all selections on Sunday mornings. I think they were up around 10 a.m. ET/7 a.m. PT this past Sunday so we'll see if that continues. I'm going to post the Week 1 consensus and then the results here so we have them for the record before moving on to the new Week 2 thread.
