  • 2019 NFL P.O.W. Week #11 (November 14-18) Post Plays Here

This is the thread for the 2019 VFV NFL P.O.W. contest. The following are the rules for this year (the same as in the past):

    1. All contestants must be a member in good standing with VFV Forums
    2. Players make one (1) single play ATS each week during the NFL regular season
    3. A correct play results in one (1) point being awarded. A "push" or tie, results in a half point (1/2) being awarded
    4. An Incorrect play results in zero (0) points being awarded
    5. All lines MUST be taken from the following website each week:
    6. All lines must be -110 or less (must be posted on above buying 1/2 point)
    7. Only Vegas Sports Books listed on the VI website will be allowed
    8. The following Books will NOT be allowed: VI Consensus, BetOnline, PepperMill, Atlantis Reno
    9. The following selections are allowed: Full Game Side, Full Game Total, First Half Side, First Half Total (NO MONEYLINES ALLOWED)
    10. Plays MUST be submitted each week by kickoff of last scheduled game.
    11. Plays must be in the following format (or close to it):

2019 NFL P.O.W. (0-0-0 (post your current record here))

    Atlanta Falcons +3 (Golden Nugget)
(This is where you will post your reasoning for this selection. It doesn't have to be a book or even a full paragraph, but more than just "I think the Falcons are better.")

    12. Myself, Seahawk Rick (the artist formerly known as Cybergolf) or any other I deem so, will have final ruling on if a play is valid (ie: Wrong line, Wrong Book, Not enough reasoning given, etc)
    13. The first couple of weeks I will give the benefit of the doubt to any newcomers on here...veterans, you know the rules, LMEAO
    14. NO EDITING!!! (ironic, as this was edited by DaveTuley LMEAO) can't change your pick after you post it as this supposed to mirror the real world where you lock in your bet at the current number...if you need to clarify something in original post (typed in wrong team or line, or forget to cite sportsbooks, etc.), please quote in new post to bring it to the moderators attention
    15. For the first time, this year, Week 17 will be worth 2 points for a correct selection and 1 point for a push.
    16. To qualify for the playoff round of this competition, players must have a total of 10 points by the end of the regular season (week 17)...important note: your points will be the number of Units you start with in the playoff portion of the contest that runs through the Super Bowl and will be run by DaveTuley with locked-in spreads and totals, though Tuley often will give extra options if the market has variances such as Patriots -6.5 but also Steelers +7 being available); still debating maximum units allowed for playoff round (currently 5-unit max bet each playoff weekend).
    17. ViewFromVegas shirt to top point-earner in regular season; $100 gift card & VFV shirt to overall playoff champion (we've had VFV Forum members offer up additional prizes in the past including cash and steak knives, so please contact DaveTuley if you have anything to add).

If you have any questions, feel free to ask and best of luck this season!

          2019 NFL P.O.W. (6-3-1 YTD)

Was torn between this game, NE and PIT....But decided on the only home team out of the 3, although I think all 3 will win and cover. BAL, IMHO, is playing like the BEST team in the league right now....No let-down today against an inferior opponent, after last weeks win over NE. They could of easily of just let up today and let CIN back in the game, but they didn't...kept their foot on the gas and pounded the Bengals.....Lamar Jackson is playing like the league MVP right now...this team could go all the way..

          Houston Texans 13
          Baltimore Ravens 27

Best of luck to all in week 11!

          NFL POW 7-3-0

Hou +4.5 William Hill and CG Technology

Agree with you G about how special Jackson is! But, equally, Mahomes and Watson and Wilson are also similar elite QBs that pose exceptional threats whether passing or running. All have been lauded at various times this year, and all are in top 5 season cumulative QBR ratings. Bal was one of two teams that earned most stars on my Saturday night short list gut picks (Pats other one)...without having looked at matchup info and records and stats. Ravens playing every aspect of game better than everyone else right now, and definitely NFL elite. These other QBs have also gone through periods of excelling this year. Houston is also playing very well right now. Coming off a Bye, they are well rested, have had extra time to make defensive (and offensive) game plans for this matchup. Ravens defense banged up, and another DT came out of Cincy game today. Houston seems healthy enough right now. The Texan defense helped them hold Mahomes in check three weeks ago. Texans won that game by touchdown, and covered the spread, being 3.5 point dogs. (Note: Mahomes played full game, not injured until following week). Ravens lost to Chiefs by 5 points, and did not cover the 4.5 point spread. But they almost covered! Think they win and almost cover: Bal 27-24. Hope I don't regret not taking Patriots...or holding out for better spread as public bets drive number up.

Congrats to TARB on being first to qualify, and remaining only undefeated contestant this year. GLTA this week!!

            N.F.L. P.O.W. (6-3-0, pending Monday night's results)

Hou +4.5 (CG Tech, William Hill)

QBs matchup and defense matchup make this a coin flip game on the surface. Across most metrics QBR, passer rating, compl %, Adjusted Net Yards/Att, defensive stats....a slight edge exists for Houston. But, in addition, Bal worse at home (1-3-0 ATS, scoring margin +3.5 ppg, -.5 turnover margin per game), and Hou better on road (4-1-0 ATS, scoring margin +5.6 ppg, +.2 turnover margin per game). Last two years Watson has 7 4QCs and 7 GWDs, Jackson has 1 4QC and 2 GWDs. Think Bal should win, but win or lose margin should be a field goal. Say Hou 24-21. Good luck everyone! Congratulations TARB!!

NFL P.O.W. (5-4 - Monday night game pending)

NE -3.5 (William Hill, CG Technology, Westgate Superbook)

Patriots 6-3 ATS this year with 19.1 ppg scoring margin (30-17 ATS since 2017 with 10.4 ppg scoring margin, and 4-0-0 ATS after a bye with 18.2 ppg scoring margin since 2017. Eagles 4-5 ATS this year with 1.2 ppg scoring margin (26-20 ATS since 2017 with 5.0 ppg scoring margin, and 2-1-0 ATS after a bye with 8.7 ppg scoring margin since 2017. Eagles have turnover margin of -1, Patriots turnover margin is +17. Patriots have 27 takeaways, an average of three takeaways per game. Patriots won and covered four straight by average margin of 23.5 ppg, until loss to Baltimore. They rebound after loss and two weeks of preparation. Eagles won and covered last two games, but haven't covered more than two straight this year. NE wins and covers in a big way 34-17. Good luck to all!

              Congrats TARB!

                NFL POW (7-3-0 ytd)

NE -3.5 (CG Technology, Westgate, William Hill)

Cold front moving south this week but game day forecasts still looking to be mid 50's at this time. If that doesn't change, Pats a fired up #1 defense should create the chance for a blowout. If this turns cold, or is snowing, then offense - especially passing offense should be favored. NetQBR of Pats twice as high as Eagles'. Pats have been a good play of the week most weeks this year. NE 34-16. Good luck to all!

P.S. Congratulations TARB on 10-0! You're having an amazing season! Good luck and best wishes in second half of season!

NFL POW bad....almost on life support....congrats to TARB for great picks

                    Dallas -3.5 [CGT]

Cowboys to bounce back vs very wounded Lions team with backup QB and no running game. Cowboys will exploit very poor Lions D also with Elliott looking to bounce back from bad Sunday game vs Minnesota. Can't see Lions being able to match points with Dallas in this one. Dallas by double digits.

                    GL to all

                      Steelers +3 Southpoint
Steelers play tough on the road and Browns aren’t exactly world beaters. Not drinking this kool-aid.

                          POW 5-5
                          Indianapolis Colts -2.5 (CG Technology)

This line would suggest the Jaguars are the better team right now. No way in my view. If the Colts had a reliable kicker, they may have 2 more wins than they currently do. Whether they stick with Vinatieri or not, I don't care, Colts are the better team and should win at home.

Jaguars allow 4.9 YPC on defense, I think the Colts can exploit that weakness regardless of who starts at QB. Marlon Mack should rush for over 100 yards. I will predict Brissett starts and if he does I would think that this line really should be -3.5 instead of -2.5.

Foles will get starting fir the Jaguars, not convinced that is any upgrade over Minshew. Even if you think it is, Foles has been out for two months and will be rusty. Bottom line, I believe the line is deflated due to the combination of several factors, Colts win by a FG or more at home.

Quick side note, just realized that my week 11 pick is directly opposite of TARB. As others gave mentioned, congratulations to TARB on the 10-0 start. Theoretically, we both could get a winner this week if the Colts win by exactly 3 points.
