Los Angeles Chargers over *Denver by 20
Philip Rivers may have lost something off his fastball and the Chargers haven’t
reached the 12-win, playoff-caliber level they were at last season. Still, they are a
much better team than Denver despite having only one fewer loss. The Chargers are
4-7 with a plus-six differential on the season. The Broncos are 3-8 with a minus-42
difference. The Chargers’ seven defeats have been by a combined 36 points, an
average loss of 5.1 points. They haven’t lost a game by more than seven points all
season. LA is coming off its bye. Denver just was held to 134 yards and nine first
downs by the Bills and with the knowledge that Brandon Allen isn’t the answer at
quarterback just like Joe Flacco wasn’t. Horrendous quarterback play has doomed
the Broncos again this season. Maybe Denver turns to rookie Drew Lock. He isn’t
going to be the answer either – at least this early in his career. The Chargers held
Patrick Mahomes under six yards per attempt during their last game. That was the
first time in 28 career NFL games Mahomes was held under six yards a throw. LA’s
defense is going to get better, too, with star safety Derwin James expected to make
his season debut after suffering a foot injury during the summer. The Chargers
have had two weeks to regroup. This is their season. Rivers is 37. He had a 32-to-12
touchdown-to-interception ratio last season. Morale is low in Denver. Supposedly
there are chemistry issues with some players not taking to gruff first-year head man
Vic Fangio, an old-school no-nonsense type coach. LA CHARGERS 30-10.

      *Indianapolis over Tennessee by 19
Lucas Oil Stadium has been Tennessee’s house of horrors. The Titans can’t win
there. The Colts are 10-1 SU, 9-1-1 the past 11 times hosting the Titans, including
winning by 28 points last year. The Colts also are 11-1 ATS the last 12 times going
against an opponent with a winning record. The Titans enter this matchup fat and
happy off home victories against the Chiefs and Jaguars. The Titans, though, are 1-3
SU and ATS during their last four road contests with losses to the Jaguars, Panthers
and Broncos. Indianapolis has a better record than those teams. The Colts defeated
the Titans, 19-17, as 3-point road ‘dogs in Week 2. This time around the Colts are on

extra rest having played last Thursday. Jacoby Brissett didn’t play well in that Thurs-
day game, a 20-17 road loss to Houston. Brissett figures to have all of his receiving

weapons healthy and available. Look for him to play much better this week being
home. The Colts have won 10 of their last 12 games at Lucas Oil Stadium, which
is an off-surface for Tennessee. The Titans suffered a key defensive injury, losing
cornerback Malcolm Butler to a broken wrist. Butler’s replacement is LeShaun Sims,
who has proven extremely burnable the past two seasons. A healthy T.Y. Hilton can
take advantage. Indianapolis has a top-10 run defense. This is key because of the
Titans’ heavy reliance on running back Derrick Henry. Ryan Tannehill has been an
improvement on Marcus Mariota. But Tannehill is an average quarterback at best.
He needs Henry to move the chains. INDIANAPOLIS 32-13.

          POWER PICKS

3H INDIANAPOLIS 24 Tennessee 19. The Colts have a couple extra
days to prep for this one coming off that Thursday Night game vs Houston.
We feel head coach Frank Reich is one of the more underrated coaches in

the NFL. Indy is 27-6 SU/21-12 ATS vs Tennessee since 2003 and remark-
ably the Colts have been great vs winning teams going 9-3 SU (+6.9 ppg)

and 11-1 ATS (+9.6 ppg). Finally, while Tennessee QB Ryan Tannehill is
4-1 SU/ATS as starter including cashing for us easily on these pages last
week, note that he is 0-1 SU/ATS on road in that span.
Philadelphia 27 MIAMI 17. Do you really want to lay near double-digits

            SF BY 6 OVER BALT

            Not every NFL fan witnessed
            the Lamar Jackson Special
            Monday Night on ESPN.
Those that did will likely be on
            Baltimore this week like peanut
butter on jelly. Those that didn’t
            have likely heard about the
            spectacular performance as he
            earned AFC Offensive Player of
the Week for the fourth time this
season when the Ravens set a
            jaw-dropping 17 NFL records in
            the game. Winning consecutive
games and holding foes to 10 or
fewer points in those games is no
easy task in the NFL. In fact, teams
that are favored in the next contest
            are just 169-220-7 ATS overall
            since 1980, including 4-12-2 ATS
the past three seasons. In taking
on the No. 1 ranked defense in
            the league this week, Baltimore
will need to dig deep in its quest
to score 40-plus points for the
            fourth straight game today.

GREEN BAY over *NY GIANTS by 21
Putting it as tactfully as possible, it hardly appeared as if the Packers
felt any meaningful sense of urgency when Aaron Rodgers and friends
invaded Levi’s Stadium to engage Jimmy Garoppolo’s rampaging 49ers.
Surely, the Pack wouldn’t have minded winning, but that would have
taken far more skill and resources than they could rustle up against San
Fran’s marauding defensive renegades. So be it. The Pack’s lost both
of their California invasions this season, in awkward style, and didn’t
handle an early-season Thursday-night visit from the Eagles when Philly
was meaningfully healthier than they are, now. No doubt, Rodgers will
let slip a few chuckles when he gets a good look at the prevailing Giant
secondary on film. The Pack’s enjoyed meaningful good fortune given

their scheduling sequences, especially given that the NFC East is en-
during a markedly-down year. The Giants may have already hit bottom

in this development cycle, though that doesn’t mean they’re close to
matching the Pack in terms of week-by-week efficiency. Fumblin’ Daniel
Jones is being asked to produce more than he’s capable of delivering.
That doesn’t bode well, near-term. Not crazy about chunky road faves
as a class, but we’d like to think this should work, so long as the Pack
has the skilled-hands people on deck we all expect. GREEN BAY, 38-17.
