Could be a reason Trump was so slow to combat the pandemic. 🤷‍♂️
Considering the guy everyone is in love with today publicly stated the risk was minuscule and the WHO said it couldn’t be spread human to human.

One thing that concerns me even more is how Dr. Fauci knew there would be a “surprise outbreak...” back in 2017.

On a brighter note, the whole reason this thread was started before turning political is 5Dimes has taken down the bets on when a first major sports game will be played. Not sure if that is a good or bad thing.

It’s sad to think Fauci is the president – wait – no - HE’S NOT!!! The problem with Trump’s mindless base is that they, like Trump, forget where the buck really stops. It’s not Fauci who fiddled when the Covid 19 fire ignited in the U.S. It’s not, apparently, the WHO that Trump listened to, regarding Covid 19 not jumping to humans, it was the reliable Chinese media. Next he and his base will be blaming the governors for not being prepared – oh, right – that’s been done. China? Of course. Democrats? Already done. Obama – first on the list. Who’s next? Joe Biden is a prime target. Hillary is always a possibility. The Deep State is usually a good place for blame; and if John McCain wasn’t dead, he could also somehow be the fall guy (and may yet). And, what about Lying-Leaking James Comey?!!!! Thing is, it’s only Trump and his base who forget who’s president when the U.S. suffers setbacks. Nobody else is buying it.

Like I’ve said before, Trump for sure is to blame on the slow reaction to this problem, but we don’t know all the information he was given(while golfing in Florida at the onset), which includes the HEAD OF INFECTIOUS DISEASES saying it was minuscule!!! There are def others to blame as well. Also, this isn’t the first time the US has not followed in the footsteps of the WHO during a catastrophe, relying on our own CDC for guidance.

Pointing fingers, trying to fix blame, is America’s first response to all things – and because that reaction ruled our first response to the Covid 19 pandemic, the U.S. shot itself in the foot. The U.S. was not alone by any means, but focusing on China – calling it a “Chinese virus” - as if the disease was somehow race-specific, and prioritizing travel restrictions on the Chinese, as if that would solve the problem, simply allowed Covid 19 to spread, because the virus doesn’t care where it started. What was needed was a response like that of the S. Koreans: aggressive and expanded testing of “target clusters” – the family, friends and coworkers of the infected - and enforced isolation and quarantine; yet, they were, initially, just as unprepared as most of the rest of the world, and diagnosed its first Covid 19 case on the same day as the U.S. The results show a sharp contrast, and is a hard but valuable lesson to learn.

As far as blame goes, however, your right: whom Trump took guidance from is key. That said, he is the boss, and those who advise the president were his choices; and, when personal loyalty to himself is a credential that trumps experience and intelligence in those choices, there is a cost to America, for which Americans are now paying dearly.

Like most issues, people are likely to place blame on the guy who they oppose. There is certainly a lot of blame to go around, from the President to governors to even the scientists/doctors running the WHO and CDC. Trump was slow to grasp the seriousness of this, and once he did grasp it, tried to take action. But as it seems to be the M.O. with his presidency, the plan was haphazard, and while some things were beneficial, a lot went wrong and the planning and execution was poor to say the least. And he just can't help to make everything about him. If somehow a man's ego could fight the virus he'd have it defeated in about 2 minutes.

The two who have impressed me the most are Gov's. DeWine in Ohio and Beshear in Kentucky. Maybe it's because I live in SW Ohio and have seem them in action, but both took action early and weren't afraid to take measures other states hadn't yet taken. As for Cuomo, he's done well once he realized there was a problem, but he was late to the party and is part of the problem as to why NYC became such a hot spot.

As for the betting lines - there are still odds for the hot dog eating contest on July 4 so that's at least something.

The one sport that could do something is golf. Of course you couldn't have full tourneys, but you could have some fun match play events. Who wouldn't want to see a Tiger-Phil match, and that would easily be doable. If you're worried about the caddies they could take pull carts (which is the best way to play golf, anyway).

Trump is only concerned with how will cover-19 affect his reelection. He doesn't care how many will die due to his inaction. He is concerned about himself, nothing else.

While the election is certainly on his mind, I’m seeing behavior in Trump that lends itself to more sinister intentions. I don’t think that anyone doubts that various state lockdowns are preventing Covid 19 spread, which would have happened otherwise; and, as long the virus lingers, reversing these lockdown orders would invite an all new wave of infection. But the rich in America are a powerful force for restarting the economy regardless of the human health costs, and I think that’s what Trump is responding to by insisting he has “total authority” to overrule governors and their state lockdowns. I have no idea what shape such “total authority” might take, but it could get be scary-time in America very soon if he decides to attempt something along those lines.

He says crap like that to fire up his base and get them to stoke hie ego. He'll back down when he realizes there would be revolt on his hands, but not before blaming anyone who doesn't agree with him.

Americans beware. As the president makes a case for reversing state lockdowns, the numbers don’t lie. Deaths have doubled over the past week increasing by 103.8%, while the number of infected increased 34.8%; and given that the U.S. testing is still largely confined to the symptomatic, the actual number of those with Covid 19 is bound to be much higher. State lockdowns are working to limit the spread, but the fact that the virus still lingers, reversing existing state orders, would open the floodgates anew. What is painfully clear is that the president is yielding to pressure to sacrifice lives on the economic altar, and his claim of “total authority” to overrule state governors is a glaring indication that he intends to do so.

The American electorate just must vote him out of office in November, for the good of the country.

Lets hope we have an election that is something close to normal. I'm not betting on it. Somehow Donzilla will find a way to postpone it...Whenever you think he can't do something, he ends up finding a way to get it done. Pirates.

Given the abysmal lack of testing, the truly enormous numbers of the infected in the U.S., and the fact that virus lingers on and will spread once the rich get their way and force Americans back to work - the time will come when America becomes a kind of super-sized Chernobyl to the rest of the world, with Americans treated like lepers. Mexicans will build a wall of their own, and the RCMP will man the northern border, keeping American refugees out of Canada. This is the headline from a story on Tuesday night...

Portends of sports being very different for a long time. The chances of fans in the seats is very far off it seems. I don't see how sports happens until there is widespread testing, which is a lonnnnng way off. Maybe they find a way to play without fans but if it isn't safe for fans, how is safe for the players. I'm sure the leagues and colleges are working on it as hard as they've worked on anything ever. Big money always drives the bus, but peoples lives are on the line in this scenario. Golf seems to be something that could get going though as you gotta a lot of space and no need to be close to anyone. No fans, no big deal. Just need cameras, announcers and support crew...They can all be separated enough to make it happen.

We haven't tested even 1% of the population yet and that is the key to the lock...It's gonna be locked a long time with the way we've stumbled out of the blocks.

Nobody knows exactly what will happen the rest of the year but many big brains say it's gonna be a roller coaster, and until there is a treatment at the very least, we are in for one weird ride going forward...Not that it hasn't been weird already.

From January to the ides of March, Trump was saying that the scientists and doctors were overreacting, announcing the coming crisis of cover-19. Now Trump is saying that they didn't warn him strongly enough about civid-19. Trump is now blaming everyone he can think of except himself. Follow the bouncing ball, Trump constantly tells new lies to cover up old lies he has told. He is nothing but a weak, shallow person. American voters made a colossal mistake in 2016 electing him to the presidency, but have to chuck him out in November.

So Fauci said in a press conference that Trump did what his recommendations were in the beginning, i.e. not shutting things down early on and shutting things down when he did was bc of Fauci’s recommendation. Does that mean he is to blame for the late response?

He literally said Trump didn’t make him say it. So NOW you don’t believe him!? This is the problem with politics and media, people have to pick and choose what to believe. The bigger problem is the sheep always believe what their political party MSM is telling them instead of doing any research on their own.
