Glad to have the forums back. I’ve been laid up for the past 6 weeks recovering from a major surgery. Thankfully, Saratoga is running. I’ve played everyday since the start of Week 2. After a dismal start, I’m nearly back to even for the meet. I’ve switched from playing pick-4’s to pick-5’s. The payout difference is so stark – much more than you would expect just because of the takeout difference. I’ve hit a few relatively chalky sequences that paid over $800, while the pick-4 plus a 3-1 shot paid only $175. Here are some thoughts on the today's late NYRA Bets pick-5:
Race 8 – Short but very competitive field. I’ll take a shot with #5 – Phone Funky Monkey (10-1 ML). Gets needed class relief for connections that like to win at Saratoga. The #1, #3 and #10 should ensure a fair pace to set up his closing kick. Might get lost in the betting in a race that includes some higher-profile connections.
Race 12 – I like #1 – Sycamore Lane (6-1 ML). Faced Grade 1 horses in last two and ran credibly enough to think he is getting some form back. Now faces much easier, gets short layoff and switches to strong turf barn. Cohen riding is likely a result of David Jacobson being the owner and is not the concern it might otherwise be. Should be up close and saving ground to get first run on Pletcher's favorite.
Played the following $0.50 pick-5 for $162:
5 with 8 with 4,6,8,9 with All with 1,10
5 with 8 with 2,7 with 2,4,5,9,10 with 1,10
1,2,3 with 8 with 4,8 with All with 1,10
1,2,3 with 8 with 6,9 with 2,4,5,9,10 with 1,10
1,2,3 with 8 with 2,7 with 2 with 1,10
4,8,10 with 8 with 4,8 with 2,4,5,9,10 with 1,10
4,8,10 with 8 with 6,9 with 2 with 1,10
