  • 2020 NFL P.O.W. Week #9 (November 5-9 ) Post Plays Here

This is the thread for the 2020 VFV NFL P.O.W. contest. The following are the rules for this year (the same as in the past):

    1. All contestants must be a member in good standing with VFV Forums
    2. Players make one (1) single play ATS each week during the NFL regular season
    3. A correct play results in one (1) point being awarded. A "push" or tie, results in a half point (1/2) being awarded
    4. An Incorrect play results in zero (0) points being awarded
    5. All lines MUST be taken from the following website each week:
    6. All lines must be -110 or less (must be posted on above buying 1/2 point)
    7. Only Vegas Sports Books listed on the VI website will be allowed
    9. The following selections are allowed: Full Game Side, Full Game Total, First Half Side, First Half Total (NO MONEYLINES ALLOWED)
    10. Plays MUST be submitted each week by kickoff of last scheduled game.
    11. Plays must be in the following format (or close to it):

2019 NFL P.O.W. (0-0-0 (post your current record here))

    Atlanta Falcons +3 (Golden Nugget)
(This is where you will post your reasoning for this selection. It doesn't have to be a book or even a full paragraph, but more than just "I think the Falcons are better.")

    12. Myself, Seahawk Rick (the artist formerly known as Cybergolf) or any other I deem so, will have final ruling on if a play is valid (ie: Wrong line, Wrong Book, Not enough reasoning given, etc)
    13. The first couple of weeks I will give the benefit of the doubt to any newcomers on here...veterans, you know the rules, LMEAO
    14. NO EDITING!!! (ironic, as this was edited by DaveTuley LMEAO) can't change your pick after you post it as this supposed to mirror the real world where you lock in your bet at the current number...if you need to clarify something in original post (typed in wrong team or line, or forget to cite sportsbooks, etc.), please quote in new post to bring it to the moderators attention
    15. For the first time, this year, Week 17 will be worth 2 points for a correct selection and 1 point for a push.
    16. To qualify for the playoff round of this competition, players must have a total of 10 points by the end of the regular season (week 17)...important note: your points will be the number of Units you start with in the playoff portion of the contest that runs through the Super Bowl and will be run by DaveTuley with locked-in spreads and totals, though Tuley often will give extra options if the market has variances such as Patriots -6.5 but also Steelers +7 being available); still debating maximum units allowed for playoff round (currently 5-unit max bet each playoff weekend).
    17. Since we are not doing the SuperContest Mirror Contest like past years and this is the OFFICIAL handicapping ViewFromVegas handicapping contest for the 2020 NFL season, DaveTuley is upgrading the grand prize to 2 nights hotel in Las Vegas (sorry, you have to get yourself here) and dinner for 2 with DaveTuley along with $100 gift card and a ViewFromVegas shirt (season must end with a Super Bowl champion for this to be awarded)...he's also giving a $100 gift card and a VFV shirt to the top point-earner in the regular season (minimum 10 weeks)...we've had VFV Forum members offer up additional prizes in the past including cash and steak knives, so please contact DaveTuley if you have anything to add).
    18. ****Thanks to Compass Rose for starting discussion on this one****18. Any selection made, and then for whatever reason, the game is officially postponed or canceled, a substitute P.O.W. may be posted at the then available lines. If no substitute play is made, the original play will be graded as 0 points.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask and best of luck this season!

Just an early warning to everyone that we will be making our yearly trek to SWFL on Saturday for 2 weeks. So I will probably start the Week 10 thread early next Sunday morning as to not have anyone miss out on the openers as I will more than likely be drunk, lol. So if you see any errors over the next couple of weeks, cut me a bit of slack as the Miller Lite's will be flowing and my fat ass will be planted in the sand, haha.

Minnesota -3 ..... Westgate or William Hill

Minnesota is 2-5 and Detroit is 3-4, but I actually think that Minnesota is the superior team. Minnesota just beat Green Bay in its home stadium. I think that Minnesota is a touchdown better than Detroit when playing at home and has to win by four points or more to cover. Detroit has the better quarterback, but Minnesota has the better team.

NFL POW 4-3 (trending in the wrong direction)

        BAL -3 (MGM)

Well it is a little hard to reach into the cookie jar when you just got your hand slapped but thats what i am doing this week. Reaching back in and taking the Ravens again. This is the right call. Bal is the superior team and should have no problems beating Indy by more than a field goal. We are seeing a good discount becuase of the high scoring game Indy just put up and the fact that Bal is coming off one of the most punishing games physically (Pitt vs Bal). I will take the dynamic ravens and will look for them to make Indy one dimensional. This is a good chance for them and me to get that bitter taste of loss out of our mouths. BAL 34-17

          NFL POW (6-2-0 YTD)

          Packers -2.5 (Westgate)

I wouldn't have taken this if the Packers had blown out the Vikings. The Packers can't seem to step up to the plate against physical teams, but they sure do love to blow out mismatched opponents. The 49ers this year remind me of the Eagles last year. Riddled with injuries, but still fighting. The big difference here is that the Eagles still had their franchise QB while the 49ers are starting Mullens who looks serviceable when surrounded by a super team. I think the Packers may have been caught looking ahead last Sunday.

            NFL POW 7-1 [7 pts.]

            Arizona -4.5 [ William Hill]

Arizona coming off a bye and at home their D-Line will harass Tua into a rough day in this one. Miami beat the Rams last week on the strength of ST/DEF scores. Can't see that happening again. Murray and his guys will be able to make more plays than Miami. His first road game will not go as smoothly as his first home game. Miami will not be able to keep up in a game where their Defense will be on the field too much. Arizona by two scores.

            GL to all

              NFL POW 4-3-1

              Minnesota -4 Westgate

Stafford entered the COVID protocol today so going to take the chance he doesn’t play on Sunday and the line doesn’t reflect his absence yet. That said I don’t wish the virus on anyone and had been looking at AZ but can’t pass up the line opportunity. With Cook back, Vikings looked like a different team last week and should be able to continue that against the Lions. His presence takes the pressure off Cousins who has been dreadful without him in the lineup. GLTA.

The line was taken off the board when Stafford was put on the COVID list, no?

Yisman, I would have guessed that too but it was still up when I checked. There has been almost zero line movement since then - you can still get -4 at William Hill, today - so my hunch was wrong about getting the best of the number.

must be a glitch with the odds services that they display the old line

WH hasn't allowed a bet on the game since the news broke, pretty sure

if you check their website or app, game is off board

              NFL POW (4-3-1)

              Denver + 4 (BET MGM)

Atlanta has yet to cover in 4 tries at Mercedes Benz. Denver now has won 3 of 4 games. Denver has covered 10 of the last 13 as a dog. Denver is a Gold Sheet key

release. Tulley the Tout likes Denver and you know how sharp he is ( in the NFL !!!)

                NFL POW (3-4-1)

                Arizona - 4.5 (Everywhere)

One fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish. Last week I was on the fish, this week I'm fading the fish. They got up big time for Tua's opening game, playing a complete team game against a QB Goff who can't handle pressure, and their special teams & D played lights out. Did anyone else also notice the unique home field edge the Fins have when they showed the temperature difference between the away sideline and home sideline last week due to the way the stadium was built to take sun and bake the opponent into submission? It was like 60 friggin' degrees!!!!! Muy Caliente!!!!

Now, it's time for a little regression, no way I'm taking a rookie in his first away game against a team coming off a bye week with a QB in Murray who can handle pressure much better. Tua did not impress opening week, and the Miami offense was outgained 471-145. The formerly feisty fish get fried in the Arizona desert, Cardinals by double digits.

                  NFL POW 6-2

                  RADIDERS PICK EM Circa

Putting my pick in now as i turn to breeders cup for a few days. Just feel we have a tremendous edge in coaching with Jon Gruden vs. Anthony Lynn. Gruden Swept chargers last year and Raider need this game to stay undefeated in division and stay up in wild card race. Josh Jacobs will get fed often here and Carr will hit his massive TE and short passes. Raiders D quietly playing better. SD cant close games and Joey Bosa may not play.....Take DA Raiders to roll on.........

                    NFL P.O.W. (3-5-0)

                    Packers -7 (Westgate)

It's probably the ultimate sucker bet but I honestly don't see how the Niners are going to score any points. Every one of their starters at every skill position is out. Playing receivers and backs who haven't played all year, and a short week to prepare. Packers are getting healthy and may also have Lazard back in action tonight. San Fran defense has also been up and down this year. Green Bay should win this one by double digits.

                      POW 4-4

                      Panthers+11 (William Hill)

Like Panthers' weapons on O, plus should hopefully have McCaffrey back for this one. I think they will be able to score 21+ and stay inside the number. Chris Jones also on Covid list which is a huge loss for KC. Look for the Panthers to keep this game competitive and stay inside the number.

NYG / Was UNDER 43 South Pt

In the year of the Over, it’s probably not real smart taking Under at a moderate number, but here we have two teams with bad records, offenses that can’t move the ball and above average defenses. They played to 20-19 last time and I expect another tight, low scoring game where the D’Souza will shine.

                        POW 5-3

                        Atlanta Falcons -3.5 (Treasure Island)

Falcons are 2-1 SU and ATS since the coaching change. Should be 3-0 SU if Gurley falls down short of the end zone a couple weeks ago. Bottom line, the Falcons are playing well and I think they may actually blow out the Broncos in this spot. Falcons offense is potent and I'm not convinced Drew Lock will be able to keep up. Broncos coming off the monster comeback win, I do not expect a repeat performance here. Falcons have blown a lot of leads this year, but they've also been good enough to jump out big leads. If the Falcons jump out to a double digit lead here, I don't believe the Broncos will recover. I don't know if Raheem Morris is a serious candidate for the permanent head coaching job or not, but the Falcons certainly seem to be playing for him. This might also be a good game to use on the reverse teaser card at South Point. Falcons by double digits.
