  • Week 2 - NFL Survivor Pool Conversation

    THE WEST IS BEST!!!!

    NFC and AFC West goes 4-0...What are the odds of that ever happening again?!

    Not any giant upsets this past weekend but enough smaller ones to knock 21% of Adam's pool to the sidelines. TB losing almost happened that would have knocked out another 12%, but alas, Tommy boy came through again with a nice drive and FG at the buzzer.

    WTF Green Bay?! I guess if you don't like the heat, stay out of Jacksonville! SF didn't give me heartburn for my Survivor pick, but they cost me dough by letting DET cover the effing spread! had -7.5 in POW though! ;-)

    So what have we learned besides gas station sushi can make you really sick?!

    As it usually goes, the losers are mostly not as bad as they looked and most of the winners aren't as good as they looked. Vegas was verrrrrry happy with all those dogs covering though...The rich get richer!

    ARI beating the puss out of TENN was one of the more impressive wins of the day as they go on the road and crush a good TENN team. CLEV shows that they are for real and will make some noise this season once again. PITT's win at BUFF shows they ain't dead yet even though I still despise Ben the rapist, but he's got some game left.

    I got through with SF/CAR/LAR in Adam's pool and SF/CAR in the million dollar pool.

    Let's move onto Week 2 and see if we can find some W's...

    ON THE RADAR...

    [email protected]..CLEV had their chance to knock of the best the AFC has to offer on the road, but getting a HOU team that beat a mediocre JAX team doesn't lend itself to going on the road against a team that is hungry and talented enough to bounce back with a solid win.

    [email protected]...DET looked like crap, but they looked like crap against a very good SF team that is Super Bowl caliber. DET made it a game only because of plays that don't happen that often at the end of routs. GB will circle the wagons after the NO loss and will put their division brother in it's sandbox.

    [email protected]..I didn't see the ATL/PHIL game but if the score is an indicator, TB should put a licking on them after their mini-bye. They got the rust off vs. DAL, and if it's hot, all the better for TB.

    [email protected]...Another hot weather game maybe were DEN might feel it in the 2nd half but they might have a big enough lead for it not to matter. It's the 2nd roadie for the Broncs so we'll see if that has an effect as they travel to play a JAX team that got whooped by the team many thought would be the 'go against' team all season.

    [email protected]..I'm liking PITT here at home after an impressive win over a BUFF team that will make some noise again this year. Holding BUFF to 16 doesn't bode well for Chucky and his henchmen as BALT was down to Volo at RB in that game, but PITT will have better backs for LAS to worry about setting it up for Ben the rapist to get enough offense to keep the Raiders on their heels.

    [email protected]...This is the type of game where SEA can flop vs. a team that didn't look good the week before and come in and get an early lead...Take TENN for the 1st half bet! TENN will want to get a bad taste out of their mouths, and I'll be at the game to see if it happens. SEA offense looked great vs. an injured INDY team, but it was on the road with the early start so looks good on paper.

    [email protected]...I took ARI as my POW pick as that win vs TENN showed the ARI D has some game and MINN will turn out to not be as good as TENN will be this season. No heat to worry about as they'll be indoors on the grass. Cousins. Nuff said.

    [email protected]...Great win vs. GB but now on the road vs a CAR team that has a shot to hang in there with them IMHO but Darnold will have to be flawless. McCafrey always helps even the playing field but if NO treats them like they treated GB, it might not be a game in the 2nd half.

    [email protected]..Not any easier for INDY against a tough LAR D with Stafford looking to get even more in a rhythm as he gets more comfortable in the offense.

    [email protected]...Division game, but NE always has the upper hand with these guys it seems and I can see Billy fixing the wrongs that cost them a close game because of a late fumble.

    That's something to chew on...Lets get some CONVERSATION going this week that can help us all find some winners. Be sure to post any injury or Covid news of note that might affect players.

    Looking at Survivorgrid.com shows that GB doesn't have a ton of future value left as they have a tough schedule and don't have DET again till the last game, which might mean nothing if they become the GB we are used to seeing.

    GET PICKS IN YOUR SYSTEMS as you can always change them. Adam didn't have a missed dealine person with his late pick window but I'll bet one of Compass Rose's dollars that it happens this week!

    Good luck boys!

      No worries Barry, nice to see you back on the board!

      Yes, that is a good site and I put their numbers up on Tuesdays usually but the future value tool is worth looking at and was part of the reason I had CAR on of my picks...Should have used them on the Liz Hurley pick, but whatever, a W is a W!

      Anyone in a pool better know that site exists!

      So here is a breakdown of the Houston sked the rest of the season:
      @CLE
      +12.5
      CAR
      +3.5
      @BUF
      +13.5
      NE
      +6
      @IND
      +10.5
      @ARI
      +10.5
      LAR
      +8
      @MIA
      +8
      BYE @TEN
      +10
      NYJ
      -1
      IND
      +6.5
      SEA
      +7.5
      @JAX
      +4
      LAC
      +6.5
      @SF
      +13.5
      TEN
      +6.
      Weeks: 2, 4, 6, 7, 9, 11 and 17 are all road games where we can fade them and be OK. Week 15 is at Jax - should be OK but we will leave that as TBD

      So if we choose to FADE the Texans in all road games it means we now need picks for Weeks: 3, 5, 8, 12, 13, 14, 18

      I took Carolina Week 1 is Week 3 is not an option for me
      Pats in Week 5 - I can see it but week 17 hosting Jax is something we might wanna have in our back pocket
      Week 8 gives us Rams at Houston but I'd rather save Rams for Week 13 hosting Jags and Week 8 sees the Jags make the lonnnnnnnnnnng flight to Seattle and while the Seahawks host the Saints the week before Week 9 sees Seattle with a BYE so Seahawks can be the Week 8 play with confidence.
      Week 12 gives us NYJ. PASS!
      Week 13 gives us Indy but Week 6 when Indy hosts Houston is when we want Indy
      Week 14 gives us Seattle but odds are we use Seattle Week 8 hosting Jags
      Week 18 gives us Tennessee which could be interesting - or not. If Titans need Week 18 they are a great pick. If not - PASS!

      I agree with Seahawk Rick that the Stillers might merit a look here. I don't see much FV after this game and good gosh they catch Vegas at the perfect time. Short week off a very emotional win and a 10A (Vegas Time) start. And Tomlin v. Gruden is a massive mismatch

      LV
      -5.5
      CIN
      -6.5
      @GB
      +3.5
      DEN
      -3.5
      SEA
      -1.5
      BYE @CLE
      +4
      CHI
      -6
      DET
      -8
      @LAC
      +3
      @CIN
      -3
      BAL
      +1.5
      @MIN
      +2.5
      TEN
      -3
      @KC
      +7.5
      CLE
      -1.

        Yeah Wink, I thought about the short week angle with LAS last night but forgot to put it in my tiny take on the game. PITT is one of my jinx teams along with CHI and the Chargers. I've gotten a few wins out if them recently but overall not a good survivor record with them.

        Good write up using survivorgrid FV. GB is one that can't be as bad as they looked vs NO... DET isn't good, and even though it's a division game, I like the cheesey ones to prevail.

      I wonder if your buddy A A ron is going to quit on the organization in the same manner randy moss did w/the raiders prior to his rebirth w/the pats, and antonio brown w/the raiders before being rescued by tawmmy. I watched rodgers give a game away v phoenix at home a few years back in order to grease the skids for mccarthy to get fired a couple days later. A A ron seemed in retirement mode over the summer, and there is only 1 team that truly "circles the wagons", that being the swami's buffalo bills. I think will be an interesting monday night game, and expect green bay to draw much survivor love. Not with my $$$ though.

        It's possible I guess, but hard to think he wants to look like dog crap all year just to grease the skids for his exit after the season. 18 weeks chatter about how you suck would be hard to hear but maybe it's a part of his grand plan This game will tell the story...

        Aaron Rodgers' ego is way too big to purposely look like shit. He just had a bad game with very little time and no running game help.

      Down to 1 in Adam plus partner on another.Lost with NE but that is OK.Taking Cleveland in Adam and in my 2 small pools with one of my 2 picks.We know a top 3 upset is coming and whoever dodges it is on the road to success.

      I will be taking the denizens of the Dog Pound. For all the reasons that our esteemed host has stated. 1 lonely entry in Adam's pool hopefully survives to Week 3.

        You gotta survive... Can't use all the top teams up too fast but you gotta use them here and there.

      Pick has to be in by thurs so here we go-- Using Clev so far-- maybe GB - maybe N E- or Denv-- don't like the division angle at all so that's my GB and NE trouble--

            Passed on GB last week (thankfully) and won with LAR and CAR, but this week I think I'll be using at least a pick on them. Small sample size, but in the past 2 years under LaFleur they have won each game after any loss pretty handily, especially when it was a blowout / double-digit loss.
            Lost @ LAC 26-11, won the next week vs CAR 24-16
            Lost @ SF 37-8, won the next week @ NYG 31-13
            Lost @ TB 38-10, won the next week @ HOU 35-20

            As of now my other pick is on CLE, but kicking around TB, NE, or possibly doing the unthinkable and putting both picks on GB.

              Yes, unthinkable to put all your picks in one team... Who do you think you are, Volo?! 😁

            Since I have only one pick I can not put more than 1 pick on Cleveland.

            My Adam pool picks...

            DEN...Changed my mind on the GB pick. Gonna go with a good D vs. a rookie QB that looked horrible in his first game.

            PITT...As much as I hate Ben the rapist and PITT is a jinx team, I just like how they came out in the 2nd half vs BUFF and kicked their ass. LAS off the MNF game lose a day of prep and barely beating a beat up BALT team isn't a signature win. Ketchup Field is never an easy place for teams to come to.

            ARI...Defense, defense, defense...If they show the same as they did vs TENN, MINN and Cousins will have a long day as Little Kyler started off HOT!

            PITT & ARI in the million dollar pool.

            Staying off CLEV until I know HOU is not for real. They aren't getting any respect, that's for sure...That can be dangerous.

              ADAM POOL SUMMARY...

              As predicted, 'Missed Deadline' snags 7-entries.

              CLEV/TB/GB get most of the love this week as expected.

              One guy has 9-picks with 8 of them on CLEV...Another guy with 6-picks and one with 7 are all in on GB...One with 7-picks and another with 8 are all on TB...

              "runerwood" started with 48-picks and lost 20 last week...Keep up the good work! LOL!
