2022 NFL P.O.W. Contest Question/Survey

One of the things that ses to always come.up.each year is what is an allowable book and when should lines be available to everyone.

My suggestion for a vote by all the masses is this: instead of using the Vegas Insider website/line page, we use the one on the VSIN site. There isnt as many books as the VI, but I think it's much more accurate, especially since they use the Don Best feed.

Currently, on their NFL page, they are showing the following books: South Point, CIRCA, Golden Nugget, Westgate, Wynn, Stations, Caesars & Mirage. I think this is a good aray of books to choose from each week. I know most are now playing online, using places Ike MGM, Barstool, FanDuel, Draft Kings, etc, but I think those lines are harder to find and I don't think there is any place that monitors them.

The only problem I see in using the VSIN page is that unlike VI, there is no way to go back and see line movement of there is a question. I would still have to go check the VI page for that.

Also feel free to leave a note about any other changes you would like to see to this contest. I hope Dave can pin this thread to the top of the page for a couple of weeks so it doesn't get lost in the shuffle by all the spammers, lol.

This works for me except for not being able to see the line movements, it’s seems to come up a few times per season where that would be needed, altho I’m not against using this and “the judges” using VI to track the odd movements when needed it won’t be totally accurate but close enough in my book.

Would it be easier just to use VI and the books that are on VSIN, or is the major reason because Don Best lines update faster? Doesn’t matter to me either way since I don’t have to go back and check anyones play.

I think the accuracy of the VI site is the main question, as it seems to update at will and not really in "real time". I do like the line history feature on VI, which as Ray stated above, the judges could still use if an issue comes up.

Seems all problems start with early Sunday betting and lines that are questionable.We are only having fun in this contest and sharing winners and info.Why not say,betting starts noon Monday,PT.

It would be nice to have a real LIVE! Odds feed if this does that. VSIN looks nice! But also, as MrVolvo says, starting on Monday Noon or even after MNF might be good, if that's not too late for the early bird line hunters.

One of the biggest and best advantages of sports betting is getting the best number. A lot of times that happens with being able to bet early. Books have game lines out now for games that take place in October, November and even December. Should you have to wait until after the previous MNF game or whenever to bet it? Restricting people to a certain time just doesn’t seem fair.

Yes, but that is not what was happening in this contest. There would be some big line movement on Sunday night or early Monday when the pros hit it the early number, and the Vegas Insider line that we use would be late updating one or two books and guys would jump on that line every week. It was usually a sharp move so guys ran up extraordinary good records dong that every week. The books had actually changed their line along with the other books, and the bad line was not available at the casino, but Vegas Insider hadn't updated the feed for that book. That's not taking advantage of one book vs another. That's taking advantage of a flaw in the contest lines. Just starting Monday afternoon or later instead of Sunday will eliminate most of it. Although the same thing sometimes happens with a major injury or scratch at any time in the week. It's not one of our books that is late to adjust. It is Vegas Insider that is later to adjust. Changing to VSIN may correct this.

Been hanging in the hot and humid London town trying to see if Miss Hurley will come out and offer me a bottle of water, not knowing that I'd just drink her sweat if that's all I could get. I'm doing anything not to see any Seahawks preseason games where I have a chance of bad and worse at quarterback. I'm heading to SF soon to court Jimmy G and offer him all the salmon he can eat if he comes here and leads the Seachickens to the playoffs!!!!!!!!! ;-)

I think if we use the VSIN site and start the next week contest at kickoff of the SNF game, it would be fair. VSIN, like I said uses a live feed from Don Best on all their books, so if a number gets hit hard Sunday night, it will show.

And then we (Dave, Rick, myself, whoever else) could use the VI site for line history ONLY, if a question about a number arises.

Again, this is just my opinion for what it's worth.

Why start it before two, sometimes three games have not yet been played in the current week? That's nuts. No contest anywhere does that.

Barnstorm....if this contest used locked lines, then yes, I would wait. But this contest is about being able to get down on the first or best lines that are readily available to the public. I know that most books already have lines up for the entire season, but for the most part, books will throw up their "new" weekly numbers at kickoff of the SNF game.

And as I have always said, just because you CAN use the Sunday night "openers" doesn't mean you have to. I myself have been burned more times than I care to count by using the Sunday night line, only to have something happen during the week to screw me out of a better number.

I guess what I really need is for Dave, TARB or someone else in Vegas, to find out or let me know 100% sure when the Books on the VSIN site (that I have listed above), actually post their weekly "opener". If most wait until later on Sunday night (halftime of SNF, later, etc) than that's what we will use. But I'm almost certain that most do post on Sunday evenings.

For what it’s worth… set your guidelines and whatever line someone can get, more power to them, and like gcotton said above, sometimes your “good, advantageous line” turns out to be not a “good “ line.
Just my 2 cents…I’ll abide by any rules set, but it may be a bit of overthinking.

I don't know how many times I have to say it, but guys were taking advantage of a glitch in the system. It wasn't just early line hunting and more power to them. They were waiting and watching on Sunday night for the sharps to move a line significantly and then they would find a stale line in one of the Contest Books. But the stale line was only available in this Contest because the VI site had not updated that book. It was not a real and fair line that was actually available at the Casino or Sportsbook. It was a glitch, a flaw, a loophole in the Contest that a few have taken advantage of for years. And it wasn't just a half point or a point. It was often 2, 3 or 4 points. Not very sportsmanlike. Good idea to give VSIN a shot and see if they have a more reliable and efficient feed and that would eliminate the line poaching.

I am good for whatever the majority decides. If you leave it as is, maybe add the rule that you cant bet until Monday at noon this way the lines settle to something more realistic.

The BIGGEST complaint that I hear among the players is the playoff format. I think most would prefer that they have the option to bet MORE on individual playoff games. I’ve also heard players indicate an interest in adding back parlay options during the playoffs. The current format doesn’t allow the others a chance to catch the front runners once they fall behind.
