  • 2022 NFL P.O.W. Contest Week 1 (Sept 8-12); Post Plays Here

This is the thread for the 2022 VFV NFL P.O.W. contest. The following are the rules for this year: 1. All contestants must be a member in good standing with VFV Forums 2. Players make one (1) single play ATS each week during the NFL regular season

    3. A correct play results in one (1) point being awarded. A "push" or tie, results in a half point (1/2) being awarded

    4. An Incorrect play results in zero (0) points being awarded

    5. All lines MUST be taken from the following website each week: www.vsin.com/odds/NFL/

    6. All lines must be -110 or less (must be posted on above site...no buying 1/2 point)

    7. Only the books listed on this page (except for the Opening Line and Consensus) may be used in this contest.

    8. The following selections are allowed: Full Game Side, Full Game Total, First Half Side, First Half Total (NO MONEYLINES ALLOWED)

    9. Plays MUST be submitted each week by kickoff of last scheduled game.

    10. Plays must be in the following format (or close to it):

2019 NFL P.O.W. (0-0-0 (post your current record here))

    Atlanta Falcons +3 (Golden Nugget)
(This is where you will post your reasoning for this selection. It doesn't have to be a book or even a full paragraph, but more than just "I think the Falcons are better.")

    11. Myself, Seahawk Rick (the artist formerly known as Cybergolf) or any other I deem so, will have final ruling on if a play is valid (ie: Wrong line, Wrong Book, Not enough reasoning given, etc)

    12. The first couple of weeks I will give the benefit of the doubt to any newcomers on here...veterans, you know the rules, LMEAO

    13. NO EDITING!!! (ironic, as this was edited by DaveTuley LMEAO)...you can't change your pick after you post it as this supposed to mirror the real world where you lock in your bet at the current number...if you need to clarify something in original post (typed in wrong team or line, or forget to cite sportsbooks, etc.), please quote in new post to bring it to the moderators attention

    14. Week 18 will be worth 2 points for a correct selection and 1 point for a push.

    15. To qualify for the playoff round of this competition, players must have a total of 10 points by the end of the regular season (week 18).

If you have any questions, feel free to ask and best of luck this season!

Sorry for the delay in starting this thread. I was out of town with no internet. Thank you Dave for the reminder😉.

I am pretty sure I have the proper link listed for the VSIN site. If not, it should be easy to find.

Any questions feel free to reach out. Again, sorry for the delay.

      NFL P.O.W. (0-0-0)
      Miami/NE Over 46 ( Caesars)

Like the over here as we kick off the week-
Don’t think the D for NE is very good this year- maybe will get better as Bill makes adjustments – but not now.
I liked Miami last year and believe this number too low for the 1st game out of the box-
Best of luck to everyone this year----
Thanks to GC for doing this for us and of course Dave--

Luckily all the lines have been pretty stagnant for a few months and nobody missed out on any early moves

          Giants +6 ..... South Point

Taking the road dog. With the lines straightened out for months, this seems to be just about the only line different from the other books. This first week is unbettable with all of the lines adjusted from the opening lines, I have a few bets at much better numbers, like Carolina +4.5, Giants +7 and Jags +4.

My thanks, also – and I hope you get a pay raise this year for all the work you do.

Like gcotton said, these Week 1 lines have been pounded into place the past several months...but moving forward, I'll try to make the new P.O.W. thread for the next week a sticky at the top of the Forums ASAP after gcotton posts it on Sundays.

As in the past, I'll get a two-night hotel stay here in Vegas for the champion after the playoff round that runs through the Super Bowl, along with dinner for 2 with your truly, Dave Tuley, and a VFV shirt. Second place will also get a VFV shirt. In addition, I'll give a VFV shirt to the person who scores the most points (units...with 1 unit for each win and 0.5 for each push) during the regular season. Past regular-season champs can also contact me for a VFV shirt if I didn't offer that prize in your season.

GREAT TO SEE THE FIELD FILLING UP WITH SO MANY LONGTIME MEMBERS!!! GLA

                2022 NFL P.O.W. (0-0-0 YTD)

                Baltimore Ravens -7 (Southpoint)

This is a case of the NYJ just being a bad team and the Ravens being very dominant. Now don't get me wrong, I am extremely worried about Lamar Jackson's state of mind these days, so it is with a bit of trepidation that I am taking BAL. Also dislike taking a road favorite of this large, but it's a very short trip up the shore to NJ for this game. One thing about John Harbaugh, he always has his test prepared to play. The NYJ on the other hand, are not even sure who will be playing QB on Sunday. Is it Flacco or is it going to be "Your Moms Hot" Zach Wilson?? I do like the direction that the NYJ are headed. HC Saleh is a really good coach, and they drafted really well this year, but I still think they are a year or so away from beating teams like BAL. Close early, but class prevails late.

                Baltimore Ravens 27
                New York Jets 14

Best of luck to all this week and this season!

                  2022 NFL P.O.W. (0-0-0 YTD)
                  LA Rams +2.5 (Southpoint)

Seems like a curious line; probably more to do with the public’s perception of (and market demand for) the Bills, than a strictly talent analysis. I’ll take the home team to win a close game, just because.

Dave, long time fan of your work, thought I would join the fun.

gcotton, thank you for running the contest, love your Avatar. In my free time, I’m an Usher at the Horseshoe. OH-

                    2022 NFL P.O.W. (0-0-0 YTD)

                    Cleveland Browns +2 (Wynn)

I think the market is overreacting to the Browns QB drama. Jacoby Brissett is a capable backup and the Browns have the superior roster. I’ll take the points, but I don’t need them.

KC up to -6, MIA up to -3.5, WAS down to -2.5, IND down to -7. News? Or just money moving the lines?

Pinnacle still has IND at -8.

I won't clutter this thread with this. Just a heads up. I started a new thread to watch and react to line movement each week.

                      Atlanta Falcons +5.
Saints on the road with a rookie head coach and a quarterback that will turn the ball over. Falcons lost Ryan at quarterback get Mariota that will add some movement out of the pocket with very good young talent on the offense. Falcons will keep it close.

I like the Falcons as well. Mariota's running ability - if unleashed - will cause problems for the Saint's defense.

From both of your mouths to God's ears🙏....I am being so patiently optimistic about my Birds this season. I will be very happy if we can win 8, but wouldn't be surprised if we only win 3 or 4, lol

                      Cincinnati -6-1/2 (westgate)

Trubisky, Trubisky, Trubisky.........Cincinati's offense will get into the 30's this week, but with Trubisky leading the huddle for Pitt, they will struggle to get into the 20's. Cincy with a 10 point plus victory should be an easy feat.

                        New England-Miami Under 46.5 Circa

This line is too high for this game. The heat and humidity of south Florida will slow down both offenses; especially the Patriots.

Miami new offense will take a little time to get in sync. Tyree will see that Tua is no Mahomes. I am seeing a game in the high thirties or
                        low forties at most.
