  • 2023 VFV NFL P.O.W. Contest Week #2 (Sept 14-18); Post Selections Here

This is the thread for the weekly VFV P.O.W. (Play Of the Week) Contest. Below are all the rules for this year's contest with points of emphasis in bold.

    1. All contestants must be a member in good standing with VFV Forums

    2. Players make one (1) single play ATS each week during the NFL regular season

    3. A correct play results in one (1) point being awarded. A "push" or tie, results in a half point (1/2) being awarded

    4. An Incorrect play results in zero (0) points being awarded

    5. All lines MUST be taken from the following website each week: and cite the book used

    6. All lines must be -110 or less (must be posted on above buying 1/2 point)

    7. Only the books listed on this page (except for the Opening Line and Consensus) may be used in this contest.

    8. The following selections are allowed: Full Game Side, Full Game Total, First Half Side, First Half Total (NO MONEYLINES ALLOWED)

    9. Plays MUST be submitted each week by kickoff of last scheduled game.

    10. Plays must be in the following format (or close to it):

2023 NFL P.O.W. (0-0-0 (post your current record here))

    Atlanta Falcons +3 (Golden Nugget)
(This is where you will post your reasoning for this selection. It doesn't have to be a book or even a full paragraph, but more than just "I think the Falcons are better.")

    11. Myself, Seahawk Rick (the artist formerly known as Cybergolf) or any other I deem so, will have final ruling on if a play is valid (ie: Wrong line, Wrong Book, Not enough reasoning given, etc)

    12. The first couple of weeks I will give the benefit of the doubt to any newcomers on here...veterans, you know the rules, LMEAO

    13. NO EDITING!!! (ironic, as this was edited by DaveTuley LMEAO) can't change your pick after you post it as this supposed to mirror the real world where you lock in your bet at the current number...if you need to clarify something in original post (typed in wrong team or line, or forget to cite sportsbooks, etc.), please quote in new post to bring it to the moderators attention

    14. Week 18 will be worth 2 points for a correct selection and 1 point for a push.

    15. To qualify for the playoff round of this competition, players must have a total of 10 points by the end of the regular season (week 18).

MAJOR PRIZE UPDATE!!! DaveTuley announcing last Friday that he was adding a second prize (especially of interest to contest lovers). For the REGULAR-SEASON TOP-POINT EARNER and the END-OF-SUPER-BOWL PLAYOFF CHAMP, he will give them each the choice of the aforementioned traditional VFV prize package (2 free Vegas hotel nights and dinner for 2; you just have to get yourself to Vegas) OR free football contest proxy service for 2 entries (value $500). Again, you would still have to get yourself to Vegas on your own to register for the Circa or Westgate contests (or whatever contest is going at the time), but DaveTuley would provide the proxy service for free. 2023 NFL P.O.W. Contest
      (0-1-0 YTD)

      Pittsburgh Steelers +2 (South Point)

Wrong team favored in this spot, in my opinion. Overreacting to PIT loss, well beat-down, to a SB favorite in the opener. While CLV beat a banged up Burrow (who can't seem to beat CLV even when healthy) in a driving rainstorm. This game was 3-0 most of the 1st half, until Watson scored under 30 seconds remaining. But the biggest take for me is that PIT HC Mike Tomlin simply doesn't lose on MNF. He has a SU record of 19-3 under the bright lights. I see this week no different, especially at home. Steelers right the ship and get a nice AFC North win.

      Cleveland Browns 13
      Pittsburgh Steelers 27

Best of luck to all this week!

        Detroit Lions -5.5 everywhere

Detroit beat the KC Chiefs 21-20 last week. The Detroit Lions should beat the Seattle Seahawks by a margin of double digits this week. Last week, Seattle lost by a big margin at home to the LA Rams. I will lay the 5.5 points by the Lions.

          2023 NFL P.O.W. Contest
          (0-1-0 YTD)

          New Orleans Saints -3(South Point)

I normally don't make my pick until Sunday. However, I see this line moving to 4. This appears to be a mismatch IMO. I think the Saints are a pretty good team on both sides of the ball & Carolina seems to be NOT such a good team with an decent Defense. I think the Saints Unravel the Panthers QB under primetime lights, and move the ball on O. Saints Comfortably here- Lay the small number on the road.....

            N.F.L. P.O.W. (1-0-0)

CINCY -3 1/2 (Everywhere- use Circa)
Balt looked ok last week- however they suffered the most injuries of any team in week one- Cincy looked like a no show against a fired up Clev team--
This week Cincy at home with a clean team no injuries-- should cover the 3 and a hook---

              2023 NFL P.O.W. Contest
              (0-0-0 YTD)

              Ravens/Bengals under 46 1/2 (Westgate)

Spotted the field a game as I totally forgot how much fun this little contest was and didn't enter a pick week 1. DOH!

This is going to be a tight, field goal kind of game. Teams know each other well, good defenses that bend don't break meaning time off clock and long drives with too many that end with field goals. Burrow won't be cranked up for another couple weeks. Smells under.

                2023 P.O.W.
                (1-0-0) season record

                Buffalo Bills 9.5

in this game we get Buffalo in Buffalo for thier home opener, after last weeks debacle and Josh Allen’s personal nightmare stadium. Against a raider team that is coming cross country at 1:00 and with the starting quarterback showing up on the injured list. The bills have more talent at all positions on both side of the ball except for maybe running back. Hold a huge advantage in the coaching department Buffalo names their score.

                2023 P.O.W.
                (0-0-0) season record

                POW New England Patriots+3
Pats will run the ball. The Pats outgained their opponent last week 382-251 and led in 1st downs. Last week was a deceiving score. This week, home underdog with better defense.

Ambrose...we know you're new here, but as Seahawk Rick points out, you need to cite what book you use so moderators can verify +3 -110 was available at the time you posted this P.O.W., otherwise it will be graded at +2.5

                2023 POW

                CHIEFS -3.5
With Kelsey return, KC will rebound over improving but inconsistent Jags. Chiefs easily cover.

What book did you use? EDIT: Seahawk Rick, this is DaveTuley...yes, Mr.OutsideVegas should have cited a book (and he should know better after all these years LMEAO), but since he wasn't trying to say -3 and was willing to lay to -3.5, I vote the pick stands as is

                NFL POW 0-1

                Houston -Pik [Stations]

Battle of rookie QB's. I'll go strictly on home field helping the Texans control Indy who has very few options at RB and their D which did a decent job controlling Lamar and the Ravens last week. This is not a epic matchup by any means, but I think Indy will not be able to score enough without being able to control the ball. Texans get their first W here by 6.

                GL to all

                  POW 0 - 1
                  Bucs -2.5 CIRCA
Bears had their chance to prove something last weekend and didn't. Fields is stil a good year away from becoming a reliable NFL QB. Less than a FG, got to take the Bucs at home.

                    VIKINGS +6.5 (WYNN/STATION)--

I have this line being around 4 so I will take any extra I can get. Vikes will be in this game all the way with a SU win pefectly in reach. Cousins finally gets the prime time win.

Has anyone heard Serriani's logic regarding kicking an extra point in the 4th quarter to take 13 point lead instead of going for 2 to potentially make it a 14 point lead? That made ZERO sense. That decision is why this game landed on 6 rather than landing on 5 or 7. Worked out great for Woodee and other Vikings backers but really wasn't a smart decision purely from a tactical standpoint. At that point in the game a 12 point lead is essentially the same as a 13 point lead so you might as well go for 2 to try to make it a 14 point lead.

Always a good feeling starting the contest with a "L". At this point, the only direction to move is up.

                    Atlanta -1 (Wynn)

Atlanta is going to finish the season over .500 and this is one of the games that will go for the win column. They held Carolina to less than 300 yards on 72 plays last week and look for about the same this week. Should be a last possesion win in this game, so lets hope the Dirty Birds get it last.

                    2023 NFL P.O.W. (0-1-0)

                    NY FOOTBALL GIANTS -4 (CIRCA)

Compass Rose assured me they will win by a TD, so just give me the point now!

What can you say about a team that lost 40-0 the week before? It can't get any worse!

NYG has talent, it just hasn't shown itself yet but going to the desert to face a mediocre Arizona team is just what doctor ordered. Daboll is 6-0 ats after a loss.

Run, and run some more on an iffy ARI run D. Danny dimes will get his act together in the air and on the ground. Barkley shows why they paid him in this one.

                    NYG by 7.
